The Fort is entirely constructed by digging into the rock to make space for the concrete and stone buildings.

Montecchio Nord is a rock formation where water is not able to accumulate naturally: to guarantee the constant supply of clean water for the Fort’s everyday use and to meet the needs of the soldiers, there is a complex supply system made up of voluminous collection basins for rainwater, filter systems, long conduits and large cisterns positioned underground, under the main buildings.

Water was available to the soldiers by use of inside such as outside pumps and tubs.
